About the Event

Winter Solstice Festival - Saturday 21st December, 12pm to 6pm

The Flamsteed Astronomy Society will be taking part in the Winter Solstice Festival at Greenwich Park on Saturday 21st December. Join us from midday to 6pm by the General Wolfe Statue for a day celebrating the shortest day of the year with a mix of astronomy and festive cheer.

Unfortunately, the forecast predicts cloudy skies with some drizzle, so instead of celestial wonders, we’ll be focusing on terrestrial observations through our telescopes. But don’t worry - we’ll have plenty of exciting equipment to showcase, including the latest smart telescopes, and a team of enthusiastic volunteers ready to chat about all things astronomy.

The Winter Solstice Festival, hosted by The Royal Parks and Royal Observatory Greenwich, features:

• A vibrant craft and food market with local artisans

• Science demos led by Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomers
