About the Event

Tim seeks to give some guidance about how the Sun can safely be viewed and imaged by amateurs. He'll look at a range of ideas ranging through inexpensive to, well, expensive including solar projection, front mounted filters and Herschel wedges. From there he will consider narrowband techniques including plug in modules like the Daystar Quark and dedicated telescopes like the Coronado at several wavelengths.


There will be a break with equipment on display.


After the break Tim will explain how to process images including using Lucky Imaging and post-processing. There will be the opportunity to obtain a copy of some of Tim's data so you can make your own images.

Tim has been interested in astronomy for a long time. He got his first telescope in time for the 1971 opposition of Mars and made his first attempts at astrophotography using his grandmother’s box camera at about the same…
