About the Event

The European Space Agency’s first independent flagship mission to the outer Solar System will be the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer. “JUICE” is almost ready for launch, and will spend ~7 years travelling to the largest planet in the Solar System. After arriving, the spacecraft will perform multiple orbits around Jupiter before becoming the first to orbit the planet’s largest moon, Ganymede. I will introduce the mission and the science that drives it, with particular focus on the possibility of deep ocean habitats beneath the icy surfaces of Jupiter’s Galilean moons.

About the speaker:  Adam Masters is a space and planetary scientist with the Space & Atmospheric Physics Group at Imperial. His research focuses on explaining how energy flows through the Solar System via magnetic fields and charged particle motion in space, as well as understanding how different bodies in the Solar System generate magnetic fields in their interiors.
