About the Event
The history of water and surface environments on early Mars is encoded in the planet’s sedimentary rocks. The traverses made by the Curiosity and Perseverance rovers offer us remarkable windows into past environmental change on Mars. In this presentation I will highlight the key findings from Gale and Jezero and evaluate what we have learnt about processes operating at the Martian surface and environmental history of early Mars.
Sanjeev Gupta is Professor of Earth Sciences at Imperial College London. He is a geologist by training and has spent much of his career studying sedimentary rock formations in places like the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, and landscapes under the sea in the English Channel. In the past 10 years, he switched his attention to exploring the geology of Mars. Sanjeev is a science team member on NASA's Perseverance rover and Curiosity rover missions, and also the ESA Rosalind Franklin rover mission.
