After the success of our members talks evening, we have 3 more members who talk about the things that interest them of that they have studied.

Brendon Copper will tell us about:
William Rutter Dawes is the unsung hero of Victorian astronomy. Nicknamed 'Eagle-eye' for his acuity in discerning double stars, he also contributed to our understanding of Saturn's rings and prepared the first accurate drawings of Mars. In recognition of his lifetime contribution, he was awarded the RAS Gold Medal in 1885... and yet he's largely unknown, even among astronomers. When I discovered he'd lived a minute down the road from my home in Buckinghamshire, I decided to find out more about 'my' William Dawes, which I'll share with you, and hopefully bring this unsung hero to life.
