A contemporary of great luminaries such as Jules Verne, Gustave Eiffel and Louis Pasteur, French astronomer and author Nicolas Camille Flammarion (1842-1925) was a great proponent of bringing popular astronomy and science to all members of society, sharing his passion and insatiable curiosity for the study of nature’s phenomena with everyone. Author of more than 50 books, he actively participated in the movement of scientific emancipation taking place in the second half of the 19th century through his writings and public lectures and became one of the most widely read and successful author of popular science books.
