About the Event
THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED ON
Members should meet outside the Royal Observatory by the Shepard Gate Clock (outside the main gate to the Meridian Courtyard) at 6:30pm. Please be aware that the Observatory closes at 6:00pm and therefore access to the observatory buildings will not be possible during our observing session. Once the Observatory has closed and the Visitor Staff have cleared the courtyard, members will be allowed in.
In the Meridian Courtyard we will be using the Coronado Solar Scopes donated to the museum by the Flamsteed Astronomy Society. With these scopes you will see spectacular views of the Sun in the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength of light. We may have other scopes set up as well, depending on availability. Once set up, we should get just over an hour of viewing time (cloud cover permitting) which will take us to around 8:00pm.
The park will be open until 9:30pm. If you are coming by car, parking next to the Observatory can only be accessed via the Blackheath Gate. Parking is free from 6:00pm.
If you are coming by public transport, you will need to make your way through the park on foot to the Observatory.
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THE FLAMSTEED ASTRONOMY SOCIETY ONLY. Please do not book a place on this event if you are not a member of the society. Your booking will be cancelled if your name does not appear on our membership database.
