About the Event

The Flamsteed Astronomy Society hosts a number of lectures throughout the year on a wide range of topics relating to Astronomy. Our presenters come from varied backgrounds, many are professors who are engaged in their own areas of research and others work professionally in the space industry.

Many of our Members are well versed in a wide range of topics relating to the field. But if you think having a better grasp of the fundamentals would help you take full advantage of our lectures and engage at a deeper level in our sessions, then our three-part series on the very Basics of Astronomy is for you.

These sessions will serve to benefit new members who wish to build upon their understanding of astronomy from the ground up and they may also serve as a refresher to more experienced members.

In the second of our three-part series, we look at the celestial sphere, constellations and stars, and magnitude and naming conventions.

The talk will be presented by Bobby Manoo and will be joined by various members of the Flamsteed Astronomy Society for Questions and Answers.

Bobby Manoo is a serving Committee Member of the Flamsteed Astronomy Society where he co-ordinates the activities and events on the History of Astronomy. He has studied astronomy at University of Central Lancashire and completed several short courses on astrophotography and astronomy. Bobby is also a volunteer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich attached to the “Evening with the Stars” programme.
