About the Event

Join ROG astronomers in a ‘fireside chat’ online as they discuss topics dear to their heart. Patricia Skelton will talk about her love of the planet Mars and the various missions that have gone there, while Dr Greg Brown will talk about how the solar system came to be as he discusses star and planet formation.

There will, of course, be plenty of opportunity for you to put your questions to them on these or others topics you want to ask about.

Patricia Skelton is an Astronomy Education Officer and a member of the formal learning team at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Her responsibilities include the development and delivery of the formal learning programme, and delivering public programmes including planetarium shows and workshops. Prior to joining the team at the Observatory, Patricia taught undergraduate astronomy at the University of South Africa, an open distance learning institution. She has a passion for astronomy and space exploration which she enjoys sharing with people of all ages.

Dr Greg Brown is an astronomer working at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. A graduate of the University of Leicester holding a Masters in Physics with Astrophysics, he went on to complete a PhD in Observational Astronomy at the University of Warwick. His research led him to the topic of tidal disruption flares, the bright bursts of light associated with the untimely deaths of stars when they cross paths with a supermassive black hole. He worked briefly as an outreach coordinator at the University of Warwick before joining the team at the ROG in 2017.
