About the Event

🔭 Event Highlights:

• The Moon: Catch it in Auriga on Saturday, glowing at 30% illumination, or in Gemini on Sunday, shining brighter at 40% illumination.

• M3: Marvel at the Globular Cluster in Canes Venatici, a dense ball of stars bound by gravity.

• M51 & NGC5195: Explore the Whirlpool Galaxy and its companion, offering a galactic dance in Canes Venatici.

• Cor Caroli: A bright double star that splits beautifully in a telescope.

• La Superba: Gaze upon the deep red hues of this carbon star in Canes Venatici, one of the brightest in the night sky.

• Algieba: A radiant double star in Leo, promising a spectacular view.

• Draco Triplet: Discover a trio of contrasting galaxies, offering a unique celestial perspective.

• M44: Known as the Beehive Cluster, this star cluster in Cancer is a sight to behold.

We will meet in our usual spot, just north of Talbot Place, at around 8.30pm.

This is a public event so you are welcome to bring non member guests if you wish. There should be at least three scopes available to take you on a tour of the sky but if you are able to bring a telescope or binoculars then please do, the more the merrier!

Those of you who are into Astrophotography are also welcome to try that with your gear and perhaps submit your best results for inclusion in our main lectures' members astrophotography opening video.

Our viewing area on Blackheath is quite exposed, so don't forget to wrap up warm! We recommend to wear warm head covering and gloves too.

Parking is free after 6.30pm. A map of the site can be found here
