About the Event
Join us for a special evening at the Royal Observatory, exclusively for Flamsteed Astronomy Society members. This event offers a unique chance to explore the Observatory and, weather permitting, observe the night sky through smaller telescopes.
If we have a clear night, members will have the opportunity to view the night sky through a range of telescopes, including refractors of around 80mm aperture and reflectors up to 200mm aperture, guided by experienced astronomers. These instruments offer a more personal stargazing experience, perfect for exploring the wonders of the night sky.
Regardless of the weather, the evening also includes an exclusive tour of the Observatory, highlighting its historic instruments and the stories behind them.
If the weather is not suitable for observing, the event will feature a tailored Planetarium show that brings the wonders of the universe indoors. There may also be an opportunity to engage in a conversation with one of our astronomers, offering insights into the latest in astronomy and the night sky.
Whether you’re an experienced observer or just starting out, this exclusive evening at the Royal Observatory is a great opportunity to explore and enjoy the world of astronomy.
Bookings are restricted to members only. Depending on numbers, we may be able to accommodate guests but we won’t know until much nearer the date.
These Flamsteed sessions are free to members but places are limited and advance booking is essential.
Full directions and access instructions to enter and leave Greenwich Park after it closes will be issued nearer the date. There will be access to the park for cars, and a shuttle bus for pedestrians, from St Mary’s Gate in Greenwich (junction Nevada St & King William Walk). Note there will be access only until 7:30pm, and it will not be possible to leave until 8:30pm except in an emergency.
